Will Visiting a Dermatologist Help?

I have been thinking about Proactiv and the apparent lack of results we are seeing, and although I said that I needed to keep my patience with the product while it works, I can’t help but feel impatient. It’s been about a month without significant results. If I am this impatient I can only imagine how my daughter feels at this stage of the game. Acne that just won’t quit is something that a teenager should not have to deal with.

A trip to the dermatologist may be helpful at this point. Sometimes it takes weeks, even months to get an appointment so I thought that I should be proactive (no pun intended) and schedule an appointment now in the hopes that she can be seen at least by the end of the year. Luckily, when I called, they were able to fit us in for an appointment for mid-December.

I informed my daughter that I had scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist. Of course she asked me why. I didn’t want to tell her that I was not hopeful about Proactiv because this would just make her lose faith. Rather I explained that I was trying to stay ahead of the game and that I thought it best that we seek out the opinion of a profession just to make sure we are on the right track. She huffed and walked away mumbling something like “will anything ever work for me”.

Just the fact that I had to tell her about the dermatologist probably made her think that I was not confident in Proactiv. In the next month I am going to put some information together on the products that we have used over the last year as well as a list of questions I would like to ask the doctor. These appointments are hard to get and I want to make the best of our time with the dermatologist. Even if they don’t have a fool-proof “cure” for the acne they can at least offer us some suggestions about how to proceed with different treatments and alternatives.
