Neutrogena Skin iD – A New Acne Treatment Plan

My daughter came home from school yesterday and said that she wanted us to go on the Internet to check out the Neutrogena Skin iD acne treatment site. Apparently her friend recommended it to her on the bus on the way home, and she was so excited by what she heard that she wanted to check it out right away.

I was curious to see what all the fuss was about because I had seen the advertisements on the TV as well and actually meant to take a look, but of course, I forgot about it by the time the ad was over. To be honest, although I know that Neutrogena has been around for a long time, I didn’t think there was going to be much to see because I thought it would be just like all the other acne treatment kits you could close your eyes and pick up off the drug store shelf.

What I discovered was actually a nice surprise. When we huddled in front of the computer to take a look, I noticed right away that the focus of the product was to identify a product that was right for your skin type. This is actually the underpinning premise of the product; that all skin types are different and therefore acne treatment is not a one size fits all solution. The second thing that struck me was the admission that it might take six to eight weeks to get results. Finally a product that gave something that resembles a realistic time frame to work with!

The site itself was kind of like a virtual visit to the dermatologist. There was a test to take to help determine what kind of acne treatment you needed. We put in her name, age, skin type, complexion, the type of acne spots that are common to her skin, where she is prone to have acne breakouts, how much acne she currently has on her face, how often acne breakouts occur and even if she picked at them (I found this to be a strange question, but I guess they know what they’re doing). Then the test went on to ask about the kind of acne treatments she used in the past, listing a number of popular ones. Some lifestyle questions followed including questions on her attitude to a skin regimen, how much sleep she got and her stress levels.

Drumroll… then the software analyzed the information collected and came up with a complete package of products for her to use. A cream cleanser, acne cream treatment and the acne pads were prescribed. We ordered them right off the site so hopefully I’ll have lots of good things to report soon. Fingers crossed as we start down another path to better skin.
