The Side Effects of Too Many Chocolate Bunnies

A few days have passed since our Easter Sunday dinner and I’m still reeling from the side effects. While the treasure hunt distracted the children for the duration of the evening, I’m not so sure it was worth all the stress of the aftermath.

It turns out that while we thought there was an amiable treasure hunt going on, there were lots of small squabbles over who found the chocolates first and therefore who was entitled to the bounty. My son was accused of pilfering some of his cousin’s chocolates after the fact and apparently my daughter walked away with the lion’s share of the prize.

She has never been one to gobble up her treats, but ever since she was about six years old she would savor her snacks, making them last as long as possible. My son on the other hand would make his disappear in record time so the two are constantly battling because after my son has devoured his share, my daughter would whip hers out and nibble it slowly in front of him, which of course would drive him crazy.

I would have thought that she was too old to find amusement in this by now, but that was before I heard the loud yelp coming from upstairs. My son was howling because he wanted her to give him some of her treasure hunt chocolate and she refused. By the time I got upstairs he was doing a frustrated dance in her bedroom and she was on top of her bed holding the chocolate out of his reach.

He got so annoyed that he screamed “that’s why your face has more pimples today!” Tears welled up in her eyes and she jumped down from the bed and ran into the bathroom.

The crazy thing is her face did get a little worse, although all the sources say that chocolate does not cause acne, so I’m not sure if it’s just a coincidence. Maybe it was the combination of the cheesy broccoli, fried chicken and the chocolate overdose, but her face was slightly worse since Easter.

I sent my son to his room and told him that when his sister calmed down he would have to apologize.

I’m definitely going to have to do more research on chocolate, and diet, and how they may or may not affect acne.
